Urban Farm Project
Beginning in 2009 our Urban Farm Committee began a feasibility study for a proposed Urban Farm project to be located off Schultz Pass Road. The Flagstaff Urban Agriculture Project (referred to here forward as the “Urban Farm”) seeks to revive the long standing agriculture tradition that once thrived in Flagstaff. The goal is to develop a sustainable, profitable, and community accessible urban farming operation. The Urban Farm Project seeks to demonstrate an economically viable urban growing model for the burgeoning Flagstaff local foods movement. The Urban Farm will help diversify our local economy and assist in re-circulating our food dollars in the community. Producing Flagstaff’s food locally stimulates local commerce, separates food prices from energy prices, and reduces the City’s overall greenhouse gas emissions. Flagstaff Foodlink knows that growing food locally is good for the economy, good for the environment, and good for Flagstaff’s food security.
Foodlink acted as fiscal agent to obtain and distribute funding for a location specific Feasibility Study to create a commercial agriculture project in Flagstaff, to feed Flagstaff. Foodlink collaborated with two local independent business development contractors to complete the Feasibility Study which provided solid deliverables both in documentation and the ongoing plan. Foodlink's board has established milestones and a strong partnership with Northern Arizona's SEDI (Sustainable Economic Development Initiative). Together the two organizations are confidently advancing and foresee the manifestation of the vision for increased food production in our community.
